| An Occasion |
[Apr. 27th, 2009|07:41 pm] |
After ten years of playing, I have caught all the Pokémon. Four hundred and ninty-two monsters. I really want to thank my friends Arthur and Jason for helping me get here. One who've I've traveled this journey with since the beginning, one who has only recently joined, but whose energy and enthusiasm we contagious, and helped me make it to the end.
Pokemon Blue may have been the last game I bought because the box looked cool (I mean, how do you deny a blue turtle with cannons? They totally had my number...). Everytime I pick up a new iteration, it always made me feel like I did back then in high school - the world really beginning to open up, take shape, and all the possibilities that the Creator has put before us just waiting to be discovered.
I've always been content to get most of the monsters, but Jason getting into Pokemon for the first time really gave me a shot in the arm to go for it and get 'em all. I know it's superficial, but it really does feel like I've pulled together with some good buddies to make this happen. Finally, after ten year...this part of the journey is complete. |

I've done a lot of stuff lately. We've done some awesome performing. Been to Powell's City of Books. Saw a TRIPLE rainbow. Allison and I saw WICKED. Went rowing on the Puget Sound.
Beong a unit leader sure is different. It's nice to set the schedule, get to pick the plays I want/feel led to do. Still, it's odd having to figure out what needs to be worked on, and what to put to the side. I guess that's leadership. May the Lord grant wisdom. |

| This Just In - 2008, Not So Bad |
[Jan. 2nd, 2009|02:07 pm] |
So everyone (well on tv and the internet) seems to be thanking God (well, not really) that 2008 is over and done. They say this because IT WAS SO HORRIBLE. Okay, I'll admit, things generally could be a bit better, but what about individually? How was YOUR year? Forget abou those TV pundits and blogging naysayers. For me, it was...actually, really great! Here's a quick rundown-
-Got to know my in-laws a bit better -Got to try a new job -Took a vacation for the first time in...ever -Rode a horse again -Went to Renaissance Fair after missing it for many years -Saw a LOT of aquariums -Played some great acting roles -Got a Wii -Got into video editing -Did a lot of other fun stuff with my family
So forget wht THEY say. You have my permission to enjoy your life. Even if things aren't going the best for you, you can still choose to focus on the joy and the positive things. |

| Must...blog...something... |
[Oct. 31st, 2008|11:26 pm] |
Wow, Halloween is here, or as I've come to calling it by is original name, Samhain. I won't bore with the details, but the original was pretty...grisly.
Anyway, we're in Canada for the week, and it's been really cool. The best part, however...
 ...is Tim Horton's hot chocolate!
I've only had it twice before, when I hopped over from New York, but I made a post about it then...
...uhhhh, NO I DIDN'T. Well, I've been telling people for years that Tim Horton's hot cocoa made me understand how Tolkien's Ringbearer's felt, after being affected by it.
The longing - the LONGING. |

Nearby, however, was something, or someone, I knew my dad would get a kick out of-
Aaaaannd for the rest of you-
BURGERCAKE!
(Man, am I too dependent on pictures or what?)
Hmm, well, for non-photostuff, I just beat Mega Man 1 on Virtual Console, the Wii retrogame service. And I only cheated a little. Hey! That Yellow Devil is hard! |

So we'll be in Washington mostly now, I guess. This is slightly sad, as Powell's City of Books is in Portland, and we have not gotten there yet.

We did drive up to Portland along the coast mostly, and Karen was great enough to let us stop and smell the roses sea salt from time to time.
 Well, and other things.
this dead snake didn't smell so good, though. I tell you what.
This is Mo's. I guess it's famous. Mostly we didn't want to pay too much.
We even got to see this awesome guy at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. He's a freaking COWFISH. THAT IS AWESOME. (sorry that the picture isn't)
Don't even ask me about this... |

| On the Road Again... |
[Aug. 14th, 2008|06:32 pm] |
...And what a road!

On Allison's birthday, we made most of the trip up to our area. The Pacific Northwest Unit covers the western parts of Oregon and Washington. We started just outside of San Fransico, which we drove up to the day before. This was my first time there, and I was very glad that our unit leader, Karen, took us across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Alond the was up the coast, we took a jaunt off the highway. A path called the Avenue of the Giants. It's lined with Redwood trees, that are large. I'm just showing how big it is, I'm not, like, a hippie now or something.

Ahhhhhhhhh... Double Chocolate Mocha...
Let me make this clear, I DON'T like coffee. This is different. This is Dutch Bros. Very nice to have before our first performance. Unfortunately, Allison is threatening to put me on a Dutch stipend for tour. |

This should have gone up ten tears ago, but here we are finally. If it had, would Arthur and I be internet, mega-gillionaires? Who can say, but here we go now. I can't say what this site, or comic even, will focus on, but I think we'll all do our best to give you a couple of minutes of entertainment a week. |

| | Derri Daugherty: You Laid Aside Your Majesty | ] | We've done a lot of show's this week. Churches, prisons, youth prisons, nursing homes, and lastly at the Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center in Denver tonight, where I got this comment from a man.
"Thank you for touching my heart."
Jesus said to comfort the widows, visit those in prison, and take care of the poor. Sometimes I think I'd do that better by being stationary, settling down. But my ministry now, my job, my calling, whatever you want to name it, let's me do those things now. How many times did I go to nursing homes before this? Some, yes. How many prisons did I visit? None. The poor? Well, you get what I mean.
The point I'm getting at, is that I have the honor of doing what my Lord commanded me to do 24/7. And when I'm not performing in one of these places, I'm preparing to do so. I'm the most blessed guy I know, and for that, I thank the Lord. |

| | Journey: Don't Stop Believin' | ] | Wow, so, as they say, I'm a whole year older. To celebrate, I give you this picture of the love child of Pac-Man and Pinky the Ghost.

Also, I'll list some cool things I've neglected to write about so far.
1. Our hostess in Billings, MT making us "Richard Johnson's", that is, Thai chicken wraps. Which get the name from being served durring our summer training in California, where they are a favorite of said CPer.
2. Going to my first MLB game - in the cold rain, with the home team losing. Happily, said team, the Colorado Rockies, went on after that to start playing well, and make it to the World Series, which we all watched and rooted for. Too bad they couldn't take Boston.
3. A miscommunication at a Thai restaraunt resulting in Curtis, our host, and me getting WAY too spicy food. If you know me, you know I LOVE spicy Mexican food. But Thais are crazy about spicy! Hilarity ensued.
4. We toured the Budweiser factory, and as much as I dislike beer, it was pretty okay. Our guide really made it, he was a retired middle school teacher, and just made it fun.
So far, it's been a great birthday, and a great mission! |
